Volunteer at Are You Listening? Festival

Are You Listening? was created to raise vital funds for the local learning disability charity, Reading Mencap. A festival like AYL? requires more people than you might imagine, and we are on the lookout for reliable volunteers to help staff the venues on the day.

What we need

Our largest requirement is for outgoing, sociable people to help cover the door at multiple venues across Reading town centre, checking and selling wristbands, talking to the festival audience about the day and encouraging festival-goers to make a donation to Reading Mencap. The venues themselves provide door security staff and you won't be needed to act as 'bouncers'. Each venue is also manned by multiple volunteers and a dedicated AYL? venue manager, so you won't be left looking after things on your own.

The festival crowd has always been a very friendly and generous one so manning the doors is a lot of fun, and although a degree of vigilance is required, you will find the experience extremely rewarding and enjoyable.

What you get

In return for volunteering for 4 hours you will get a wristband for access to all the venues, so while you are not on shift you can enjoy any of the acts. You will also get a meal voucher and two drink tokens, and a festival staff t-shirt to love and cherish. And, having made a massive difference to people with disabilities in Reading, you should get a warm and fuzzy feeling that will outlast the festival itself.

How to volunteer

Please only volunteer if you can definitely attend. It takes a lot of people to cover the whole event and last-minute rearrangement of volunteer assignments strains the goodwill of those who do attend.

To find out more about becoming a part of the Are You Listening? Festival team please contact Alex on partnerships@readingmencap.org.uk or 0118 966 2518.

There will be meet-ups nearer the time to chat about the day in more detail.
